2010 - Here I go

Whilst many people like to use the phrase 'here I come' to denote positivity in an uncertaing future or event, I decided to take a different approach. This year, instead of saying "here I come", I will say, "here I go".

Im imagining myself moving forward this year, I already are trying to get a few things rolling in a bid to jump start my life in a forward motion. Of course inertia is inevitable and as its forces make frantic efforts to entangle me in a solitary spot, I do believe I will forge forward, for Sparta.

So what have you planned for this year, are you on course, or like the previous years, are going to linger in zero progress. Its time to move on. Forget the heartache and the pain. Maybe it was your fault, maybe it wasn't. You cant do anything about your past, but it can surely be a benchmark for the present.

Happy 2010 people!

The Chaos Effect

Yesterday was a fantastic day for me. What started as a beautiful Monday morning ended in the funniest way imaginable. First I had a great time at work. A little bored I was as I did not have something major to do. Just as the clock turned to half past one, I receive a call that my power supply was being disconnected due to delayed payments. Indeed I had overshadowed my grace period to clear the debt by 1 week, but hey this is Kenya, guys are never prompt at doing things, especially disconnecting!

So I rushed out of the office hoping to settle that issue soonest and get back to work. I dont drive so I had to board a matatu, which kept stopping to pick everything, even the flies! So I meet my housemate and good buddy Joel. He had braved the long queue and had paid. Now it was my turn to take the receipt and show it to the electrician so as to have the power reconnected.

I dashed to town as the trip home demands a trip via the city. While in town I decide to get some cash from the ATM but alas! I have a negative balance. In a rush I proceed to buy airtime and call customer care who keep me on hold forever. So I finally run out of airtime. I rush into the bank and get tossed like a rag doll all over the place. Finally Im told some money has been frozen but they donno why. So I leave after they promise to look into it seriously.

I rush home only to find the house flooded. A faulty tap had leaked all over the place. My beddings, clothes and OMG, my old laptop was also floating around the pool. What in the flying F@#$ was my expression. I could do nothing but start salvaging what I could.... Oh what a day!

Its an Everyday Life

As I headed to work today, I looked at guys as they also head to work. No smiles, faces look worn out yet its still seven in the morning. Its then that I realize that as much as life may seem smooth for me (trust me it isn't!), not everyone can say amen to that. To some people everyday is a struggle, some to stay alive, some to get that house, some to lose weight, to get a boyfriend or girlfriend, to dump one.... I believe the list is endless.

The bottom line is everyday we look for a reason, a reason why we need to wake up and take a shower, leave the house and head out into the world, we need a reason why we work so hard, why we do the things we do everyday, a reason why we are alive. To lack this reason can very well lead to a fit of depression if not carefully checked. For some people the reasons are good, to earn a daily bread, to make her happy, to be able to buy a car next year, again, its a near impossible list to write. For others the reasons are bad, evil and not worth mentioning. These need prayers. Only God can judge them.

Its just struck me that our elections approach. As the inevitable clock ticks on, our politicians are at their wits end (that sounds funny, doesn't it?) trying to show the people that they can bring a change. You see its an everyday life for them, sit idle and just eat money, like dormant volcanoes, then suddenly erupt and vehemently insist that they are the saviors. I think they have just come to the end of their road. Kenyans, vote well this year, vote against suffering, vote against liars, vote against corruption and tribalism; vote for better living standards and less taxes on the people, vote for your children. Vote for peace.

We all know that choices have consequences, and we all should be ready and willing to face them as we, in our oblivious state of mind carry on with our everyday lives. The day to vote will come, so vote wisely, the day to marry will come, start preparing for it now in your day to day life. Be kind, polite, make yourself look good. Indeed a baobab tree comes from a very small seed. Similarly, all the good and finer things that I and you want in life can only be realized if we start making the necessary changes and plans now. It starts with a choice. Make one today.

Tidal Wave

Its like a tidal wave sweeping over the terrain, sweeping everything in its path. You must be wondering what exactly am talking about. I'm talking about change. Changes are happening all over, in my life, in the world, in my family and friends. As Mr Smith put it in the Matrix, "...It is the sound of inevitability". That is what change is for me.

Some stuff has happened that has made me sad, others bring me great joy and excitement, leaving me yearning for more. I me the greatest chic in the world, my dearest Renee (my sweet angel), finally, (and I sigh with great relief when I say "finally") I cleared some academic hurdles I wont mention, got a job, am "livin" large. Aint life just great?

Anyway starting up on this blog is anatha change I decided as a means of telling you guys what's on ma mind. I feel both nostalgic and ecstatic as i ponder over my tumultous past. Its been rough and "yenyewe nimetoka mbali". Still I have so far ahead to go, but slowly and steadily, I will get there. I tahnk my God for this great life he gave me, the many lessons He has orchestrated in my life, my mama, the greatest woman alive, my brothers: Dv, Dan (Jaw-seph), K-ob and my ever pretty sistas; Jay, Winsa, n Stayci. I love u mama. "Bila wewe..."

I have to go for lunch now. Its been trully a pleasure meeting you. Hope Il see you soon. I sign off today saluting my great papa, man J Chavene: "Rest in Peace".
